LIST THREE THINGS THAT ANNOY YOU ABOUT YOUR SALES WORLD OR THE WORLD OF YOUR SALES TEAMS

REFLECT ON THIS

There are at least eight major sources of annoyance and frustration in the sales world I work in. These are, in no particular order:

  1. Low activity/slow sales days
  2. Disorganised sales teams
  3. Gossip about team members
  4. Poor sales/performance
  5. Absence of team leads
  6. Poor administrative decisions or guidance
  7. Poor engagement/coherence as a team
  8. Team or team members are consistently late to work and achieving milestones

It’s the nature of sales work that there will always be difficult things going on with salespeople. The source of the problem usually has to do with a lack of administrative support systems, poor work culture, poor or unsuccessful recruiting, mismanagement or insufficient management involvement, or team members not knowing the solutions to their problems.

As a salesperson you need to be able to reflect on who you are, and what your position is in the team, and use that information to find the answers you need. There are some excellent resources out there in the form of books, Youtube videos, and other forms.

As a manager, you own the culture of the workplace and are responsible for the day-to-day functioning of your sales team. If it isn’t working, it’s on you to fix it. This takes honest inward reflection and deep behavioural change. Sometimes, it requires those things on short notice and under difficult circumstances. But if you’re not responsible, then who is?
