Common Sales Mistakes: Reflecting on Missteps at Work

by | Apr 17, 2019 | Sales Techniques

As you reflect, consider these additional questions: was it stress or anxiety that drove you to engage with someone in this way? What was on your mind? What events or circumstances were making you stressed?

Sales is a very stressful world. We have an incredibly difficult job that no one else really understands, unless they work in sales themselves. The assumption people tend to have is that as a salesperson you can just go out and make sales, and that as a manager you can change your results (and get the team performing as you want them to) just by changing your mind or realizing what the problem is. Of course, things are never as easy as that, and that’s why so many people fail to develop successful careers in sales.

From here on, try to reflect on these points in your own sales career

  1. What are you reading, and how are you improving your sales skills and your professional abilities? Sales is 100% dependent on your sales skillset.
  2. What is your lead generation process like, and how sustainable is it? How consistent are the results?
  3. How do you recruit new team members?
  4. What is your process for organizing and running meetings? How well put together are they? How good at asking question are you and your team?
  5. How well do you use your company’s CRM? How often? Do you take full advantage of the resources it offers?
  6. What is your office culture like?
  7. How easy/achievable are you proposals and administrative goals for sales?
